He angitūtanga | About the role

The Department of Conservation is seeking applicants for the position of Ranger/Project Lead, Community. This is a Fixed Term contract (18 months) funded by the Jobs for Nature programme.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to become part of a strong and hardworking team. You will contribute towards growing conservation in the Eastern South Island District team alongside our treaty partners and the community.

The position will be focussed on:

• Supporting and maintaining relationships with whānau, hapū and iwi and other internal and external stakeholders as treaty and conservation partners
• Supporting the delivery of 10 Jobs for Nature (JfN) conservation projects in the Mahaanui district by facilitating connections/relationships and creative problem solving
• Liaising between the JfN project delivery teams (external) and Manager (internal) to monitor the progress towards quarterly milestones
• Conduct site visits to monitor JfN projects to provide on the ground assurance and support
• Preparation of assurance reports and contract variations
• Opportunity to contribute to the delivery of other community focused work as required/ aligns with your skills and interests. This could include: event management, concession and permission monitoring/processing, administering community agreements, managing volunteers, publications and social media

If you have the following skills and attributes, we are keen to hear from you:

• Relationship building skills and ability to work in true partnership with internal and external stakeholders, including with local whānau, hapū and iwi partners
• Understanding of project management and reporting requirements
• Excellent written communication skills and report writing experience
• Understanding of financial reporting and/or use of Microsoft Excel
• Ability to work autonomously and prioritise work through excellent personal organisation. An eye for process improvement to enhance organisational performance
• A team player and preference to work with others
• An interest in te taiao and knowledge of conservation methods
• Previous experience using computer software including Microsoft Office products and Outlook
• Full New Zealand driver license

 

Desirable:

• Current First Aide Certificate
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of tikanga Māori and te ao Māori

The salary range for this position is $62,535 to $79,906 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
