Are you looking for an interesting and challenging opportunity to work with the Mawhera/Greymouth District community to help manage conservation?

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated team member with excellent people skills to deliver on the Department's National Concession Compliance Strategy, which involves undertaking monitoring and advocacy activities.

 

He angitūtanga: About the Role

As a Community Ranger, you will join our small, highly motivated team in Greymouth who carry out diverse conservation work. Your role in the team will be focused on effectively engaging with permissions holders on public conservation land in the Greymouth District which broadly encompasses the Grey Valley, Lake Brunner, Reefton and Maruia. You will help manage the district's permissions monitoring and compliance programme which will get you out and about meeting people from all walks of life.

 In this role, you will:

  • Help manage the monitoring and compliance programme through frequent visits to holders of permissions such as mining access arrangements and other concessions such as Grazing, Tourism & Recreation.
  • Provide written reports, update the database and undertake follow up actions when required.
  • Promote conservation, lift awareness and educate permission holders on the value of conservation and ecosystems in the Greymouth District.
  • Evaluate and provide input in relation to statutory land administration, RMA, and permission applications as required.
  • Support community conservation projects by providing guidance on funding streams, health and safety planning and networking opportunities
  • Support other District priorities from time to time.

 

This is a permanent position and full-time position, with an intended start date of end of February.

 

He kōrero mōu: What we are looking for.

We are seeking a confident communicator who is keen to engage with a variety of stakeholders to achieve greater conservation outcomes. We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Previous experience working in a compliance and regulatory environment, including knowledge of RMA.
  • Experience in working with and partnering with statutory authorities, community groups, iwi or business groups.
  • Strong data management and technology savvy skills including use of GPS, Digital photography, Drones & GIS.
  • The ability to effectively and positively engage with people involved with land use that often conflicts with conservation management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including a proven ability to write accurate, clear and concise reports.
  • A ‘can do' attitude and proven excellent organisational skills, including the ability to balance competing demands, meet deadlines and have a problem-solving approach.
  • Valid full drivers licence.
  • Knowledge of ecology, environmental effects and mining would be beneficial, but not required.

Salary Range $53,776 - $68,714. Starting salary of the successful candidate will be based on their relevant skills and experience.

 

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
