In a diverse and complex threat landscape, it is important to have systems in place to reduce vulnerabilities.  Te Papa Atawhai has responded to security risks and threats against staff by setting up a specialist Security team.  The Security Advisor is responsible for working with the other members of the Security team to identify and lead prevention work with staff and DOC partners and respond to deliberate acts which threaten our people, partners, operations, assets and systems.


He angitūtanga: About the Role

As the Security Advisor you will work support the wider security team on the provision and creation of foundation documents which will include the principles which will underpin the team's work.    A high degree of consultation will be involved in all work working internally with sites, operations managers, and internal work groups as well as externally with other government agencies.  There will be the opportunity to be involved in a variety of work including assisting site assessments, information gathering, development of standard operating procedures and following up on security events or incidents that involve our staff and those we partner with.

With your professionally inquisitive mind and interest in the mahi of Te Papa Atawhai this role is an opportunity to move into the Security sector.  An ability to undertake research, to consider all options and be solution focused are the skills that will allow you to succeed in this role.  We are looking for a people person with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing to convey your message.                 


You will also have:

  • A tertiary qualification and interest in the security industry or law enforcement within the government sector
  • Experience working in a team environment where change is managed
  • Experience in providing information/intelligence
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups
  • Knowledge of basic project management tasks
  • Developed writing skills
  • Able to obtain a security clearance at Confidential level
  • Able to travel within New Zealand
