An exciting opportunity has become available for Ranger –Biodiversity within the Mahaanui Operations team.

  • 2x permanent full-time roles
  • The role is based in Otautahi / Christchurch and provides the opportunity to spend your days in stunning landscapes right across our district working to enhance the environment and with species that makes our area distinct
  • This role works in with our biodiversity work in the Mahaanui District across threats and assets.
  • This role gets to experience the full range of conservation tasks across biodiversity and into recreation, historic and emergency work.


He angitūtanga: About the Role

As our next Ranger, you will be focused on the biodiversity mahi and ensuring the work is done to a high standard. You will be working closely with the wide Mahaanui team as well as the community, other organisations and agencies.


He kōrero mōu: What we are looking for


  • A genuine interest and an enthusiasm for conservation;
  • A relevant degree or qualification in conservation, biology or ecology;
  • Have a practical background with the ability and physical fitness to be able to carry out a variety of conservation tasks, including weed control, predator control and biodiversity monitoring.
  • Knowledge of plants, birds and animals and methods to manage.
  • The ability to plan and prioritise your own work;
  • Leadership skills with the ability to lead a team and projects
  • Proven organisational skills;
  • Be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form and be familiar with and confident in the use of VHF radio systems;
  • A current first aid certificate and full driver's licence;
  • A Growsafe, 4x4 and LUV qualifications are desirable.
