Are you someone who is passionate about getting into the outdoors?  If you love working in nature, appreciate a remote natural environment, are capable of extended periods away in the back country and have good practical field skills then this is the ranger job for you!

We have a Ranger vacancy in our Operations team here in South Marlborough (based in Renwick).  The South Marlborough District encompasses vast wilderness areas such as Mt Richmond Forest Park, Branch and Leatham Valleys, Ka Whata Tu o Rakihouia Conservation Park, and the historically iconic Molesworth Station and some internationally recognised visitor sites like Saw Cut Gorge and the Kaikoura Peninsula.

In South Marlborough, we pride ourselves on the quality and range of tourism and recreation opportunities we manage. The recreation portfolio ranges from backcountry huts and tracks used predominantly for hunting chamois, deer and pigs to popular holiday camps like White's Bay.

The historic side covers working with some of the earliest known human occupation sites and a rich array of pastural history with some amazing examples of cobb buildings.

Your day to day work will take you across South Marlborough, working alongside our experienced team of rangers undertaking maintenance on tracks and huts, clearing vegetation, keeping our campsites clean and tidy and maintaining our historic sites. You may also be involved in controlling pest plants and animals and assisting with compliance operations and firefighting.

For this entry level position, we require someone who is a team player, who will be compatible with and complement our team of experienced rangers, you must have a high level of fitness and hold a full clean drivers' licence.

It would be an advantage to have qualifications or experience with chainsaws, scrub bars, carpentry, quad bikes and 4wd vehicles, small plant maintenance, hunting and backcountry living. This job presents unique challenges that will require you to sometimes go without hot showers for periods of time and be outside of cell-phone range.
