The rapid growth in global tourism has created the need to showcase Aotearoa's most iconic and unique visitor experiences with inspired design and engaging storytelling. The work of our team is often on high profile projects, and in complex settings. 

 

About the role

The purpose of this role is to lead the development of new products and/or concept designs for high profile/complex visitor experiences

You will:

  • Lead fit for purpose processes to design complex and high-profile experiences using customer centric design methodologies and tools
  • Demonstrate skill and experience in the application of design processes, preferably in either tourism/recreation, architecture, landscape design, spatial design, visual communications or other related discipline
  • Exhibit advanced analytical skills applied to experience design
  • Ensure that desired safety outcomes are designed into the visitor experience

  

This position is based in either Hamilton or Invercargill New Zealand as part of a small but pivotal national team.  Your ability to work with and through others, both in and out of the department, will be critical.

You will:

  • Demonstrate the ability to influence at all levels of a hierarchy and across a range of stakeholders
  • Engage and work in partnership with whānau, hapu or iwi showing an advanced understanding of the implications of the Treaty on today's society
  • Design fit for purpose methods, tools and processes for experience designers and other DOC staff to use to improve visitor experience design
  • Coach and mentor experience designers

 

Project management experience applied to large projects, including experience using MS Project or similar would be advantageous.

 

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
