Are you someone who is passionate about recreation and the protection of New Zealand historic assets?

 

We have a vacancy for an experienced Ranger in our Recreation and Historic team in Masterton.   As a Ranger, Recreation and Historic you will be heavily focused on carrying out critical conservation work programmes involving:

  • volunteer coordination and oversight
  • construction and maintenance of sites and assets
  • management and improvement of campgrounds
  • provision of visitor information
  • visitor hazard management systems
  • visitor risk management

 

Your day to day work will take you across the district, carrying out recreation and historic based work programmes on and off public conservation land, according to work plans.

 

Your skills and experience in field work and asset management will be of great help to others as your role includes supporting and/or overseeing Rangers, community groups and volunteers doing conservation work in the field

 

There are also several biodiversity projects within the district that you may be required to work on , these may include but are not limited to; the nationally significant Project Kaka monitoring programme, threatened plant and fresh water species work and animal and plant pest control across the Wairarapa landscape.

 

Ideally you will have

  • a proven track record working with a variety of stakeholders
  • sound knowledge and practical experience of field delivery work
  • current First Aid Certificate
  • experience using Asset Management Information Systems
  • ability to interpret GIS information, produce maps and use data loggers

 

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
