The Department of Conservation has a vision for New Zealand to be the greatest living space on Earth. It is responsible for some of the most important issues facing New Zealand: how to look after our unique environment in a way that benefits current and future generations. It grapples with issues as challenging as maintaining our unique biodiversity and providing for the increasing number of visitors coming to visit our beautiful places.


Through the Provincial Growth Fund (PGF), central government has committed to investing $1 billion per annum over three years in regional economic development.


The PGF provides an opportunity for enhancing the social, cultural and economic wellbeing of the West Coast – one of five regions that have been identified for early investment.


This role is for a fixed-term of 12 months to support the Director, Operations Western South Island to actively lead engagement with the Provincial Growth Fund to ensure good outcomes for communities and the Department of Conservation on the West Coast.


This role requires a great people leader. The ability to build strong collaborative relationships internally and externally is vital to the job, to achieve goals and build on conservation efforts in the District.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
