This is a fixed term role for seventeen (17) weeks - starting 10th September 2018.

 

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, with native wildlife, in a unique and isolated environment. Your role will contribute to the conservation of the Nationally Critical NZ Fairy Tern (Sternula nereis davisae), where you will work as part of a small team focussed on protecting nesting NZ Fairy Terns during the breeding season. Tasks will include: locating, monitoring and protection NZ Fairy Tern nests, predator control, advocacy, compliance, data entry and reporting.

 

The ideal applicant will have:

  • A strong work ethic with good attention to detail
  • A keen interest in ornithology and experience working with birds  
  • Knowledge and experience with predator control methodology
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to positively engage with public and stakeholders
  • The ability to work alone as well as part of a team
  • Physically fit
  • Current first aid certificate
  • 4WD qualification and experience
  • All-terrain vehicle qualification and experience

 

Additional desirable skills:

  • Firearms license
  • Good computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office

 

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
