Are you passionate about the conservation of New Zealand's natural flora and fauna, skilled and experienced in weed and animal control and up for a challenge?


We are seeking a highly motivated and suitably qualified person to join our team in the Te Manahuna Twizel office. Twizel is located in the heart of the Mackenzie Basin and offers an excellent life style with a range of outdoor recreation opportunities.


The focus of this position is animal pest management. You will need to demonstrate a very strong commitment to staff and contractor safety and wellbeing and provide excellent strategic advice and programme oversight. Ensuring quality of work outputs using accepted best practice and strong leadership are critical to this role and you will be expected to support the Operations Manager with maintaining audit trails, performance reporting and financial management of work programmes.


The person we are seeking will have:

  • drive, passion and the ability to inspire, mentor and support staff
  • the ability to work well as part of a management team
  • extensive experience of managing projects and leading teams
  • specialist experience in animal pest management, particularly tahr but also including rabbits, possums and wallabies
  • the ability to think strategically and assess risk
  • proven experience in developing excellent working relationships and communicating with iwi, stakeholders and the community
  • contractor management and procurement experience
  • controlled substance licence
  • firearms licence
  • current first aid certificate
  • full drivers licence
  • four-wheel driving qualifications and off-road experience


You may be required to stay away overnight, work outside normal hours and/or during weekends. It is essential to have a very strong commitment to health and safety.


Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
