The Rotorua/Tauranga District is within the Central North Island Region. The district's two main offices are in Tauranga and Rotorua, where this position is based. The district includes; the beautiful geothermal Rotorua Lakes, the Kaimai-Mamaku Conservation Area, and coastal Western Bay of Plenty.


Rotorua Lakes contains some amazing, diverse and unique ecosystems including geothermal landscapes and features. As Senior Ranger/Supervisor Biodiversity you will be working closely with the Operations Manager and the District Leadership Team to lead the planning and delivery of the work, and providing technical advice and support.


Key functions of the position include;

  • Taking a lead role in biodiversity planning across the Rotorua part of our district.
  • Supervising and leading our Rotorua based biodiversity team
  • Assisting the Operations Manager with management of work assignments across the biodiversity programme.
  • Providing technical biodiversity advice to the Operations Manager and other internal and external parties.
  • Being an active part of the District Leadership Team


The successful applicant will have;

  • Experience in building and sustaining collaborative relationships - identifies, develops and sustains effective, productive, collaborative and outcome oriented relationships (internal and external) to achieve conservation goals. 
  • Experience working collaboratively with whanau, hapu and iwi
  • Commitment to excellence - sets high personal and professional standards; assumes responsibility and accountability for the successful completion of projects, assignments or tasks
  • Skills in strategic analysis and decision-making, great planning and project management skills, be physically fit, have a can-do attitude and is someone who wants to get things done
  • Experience in the practical management of biodiversity programmes
  • Initiative - develops new, innovative yet practical ideas, rethinking how to approach work
  • Good level of ability to use IT systems, interpret GIS information, complete reports, and produce maps. Full drivers licence and current First Aid Certificate


At times this position may require you to work in the backcountry, outside normal office hours and away from the Rotorua Office. 


Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
