Are you keen to do your bit to grow conservation? Are you good at leading a small highly effective team, planning, following processes and multi-tasking? Do you know how to get others engaged and active in supporting conservation? We have an opportunity available for a great, hard-working person to join our Operations team.

 

As a Senior Ranger/Supervisor – Community, you will be a leader in a hard-working, passionate and focused Operations team working on important conservation initiatives across the Central Plateau District.

 

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading a District team-wide approach to working with others for conservation growth and in doing so, ensuring effective relationships are fostered and deliver real conservation results. 
  • Leading DOC's working level involvement in multi-stakeholder projects within the District.
  • Supervising 3 highly effective Community Rangers leading iwi relationships; council relationships; statutory decision making; communication and events; and volunteers.
  • Effective community work programme development, weekly work planning, budgeting, and ensuring quality work delivery and relationship management. 
  • Being a constructive and engaged member of the District's Core Leadership Team.
  • Preparing and enacting the District Community Business Plan.

 

The ideal applicant will have:

  • A tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience, in a field related to conservation;
  • Excellent team member skills;
  • Experience leading a small team;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Be passionate and knowledgeable about conservation;
  • Experience working with iwi; 
  • Strong networking abilities, with positive working relationships across a broad range of groups;
  • Knowledge and experience in planning and organising projects; and understand and be able to support the priorities of the Department.
