Are you someone who is passionate about the outdoors?  If you love working in nature, appreciate a remote natural environment, and have good practical field skills with a proven ability for planning and delivering work, then this maybe the ranger job for you!

We have three Ranger vacancies in our Operations team in the Hauraki district, Thames office. The area is seeking three motivated, fit and responsible people to assist the delivery of the district's track and weed control work program.

Half of your time will focus on invasive weed control around the Firth of Thames, mainly spraying invasive Spartina with a knapsack spray pack. The other half of your time will focus on track cutting and track maintenance.

These Ranger positions are pivotal to the operation of the DOC Biodiversity and Recreation/Historic Assets teams.  We need individuals who are effective team players, good communicators, with a passion for the outdoors and enthusiasm for working with others.

The Rangers in this role will take the lead in ensuring our tracks meet the expectations of the local community and tourists, as well as providing safe opportunities for families exploring the outdoors and nature for the first time.  Spartina control is part of the wider Spartina eradication plan for the Hauraki/Coromandel to keep our internationally recognised wader bird habitat free from the clutches of this invasive – land reclaiming weed!

A full, clean drivers license is essential.

Helpful (non-essential) Qualifications:

  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Current Growsafe Certificate
  • Experience in weed control using Herbicides
  • Ability to identify Spartina and other invasive weeds
  • Knowledge and/or experience in field delivery work
  • Experience and/or qualifications in working with scrub bars and other field based equipment
  • Good communication skills and an ability to get on with people.

Please apply online.  Applications must include a cover letter, a competency based CV and evidence of the required capabilities as per the project description.
