Applications are open for three Biodiversity Monitoring Ranger vacancies based in Palmerston North to join our team!

 

These are full time, Permanent positions, working 40 hours per week.

 

You will collect biodiversity monitoring data from a wide range of sites and projects with a focus on the national tiered biodiversity monitoring programme.  You will be part of a national team and may have responsibilities that extend beyond the location where you reside.

 

We are looking for enthusiastic Rangers with the following skills/experience:

  • Proven ability operating in the backcountry, communicating effectively and getting on well with others in a small team
  • Physically fit and able to carry a full pack for three hours off track
  • A range of monitoring experience
  • Able to regularly spend long periods of time (up to 2 weeks) away from home
  • Current full New Zealand Drivers Licence is desirable

 

Specialist skills and experience within one or more of the following areas is desirable:

  • Extensive experience in 20 x 20 plots,
  • Plant identification,
  • Bird identification, preferably 5 minute bird counts
  • Animal pest monitoring, preferably ungulate pellet counts and possum monitoring

 

Put simply, these are all technical monitoring roles that spend a large proportion of time in the field visiting a large number of different sites.

A tertiary qualification or equivalent experience and achievements in science or natural heritage management are desirable.
