The Visitor Centre Team wants you… 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and motivated person to join our Westland Tai PoutiniNational Park Visitor Centre team in Franz Josef.   The focus of the role is customer service – you are effectively the “face” of the organisation.   Your role, and that of the visitor centre team, will be to deliver exceptional customer service to a wide variety of visitors every day.   From behind the front counter, you will be expected to bring the conservation message to life and inspire visitors to go out and explore the conservation estate.  Tasks vary but will generally include:

  • Consistently ensuring high standards of service are delivered and visitor centre systems, processes and operating procedures are followed.
  • Providing quality information on conservation, recreation and safety to domestic and international visitors.
  • Fielding and responding to enquiries in person, via e-mails and on the phone.
  • Educating and encouraging participation in recreation and nature based activities and opportunities in South Westland – including booking people on third party activities.
  • Ensuring the visitor centre always looks tidy and presentable, shelves are fully stocked and facilities are clean.
  • Administration work, including reconciling daily and weekly banking.

 

The ideal applicants will have the following skills/experience:

  • an understanding of recreation and tourism opportunities throughout New Zealand and knowledge of conservation and recreational activities available in the Westland area
  • the ability to convey visitor safety information clearly, concisely and in a positive manner
  • experience/demonstrated competence in customer service, computer skills, sales and retail
  • team leadership skills as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to maintain high standards and a positive attitude while working under pressure and/or performing      repetitive tasks
  • enthusiasm for, and an active interest in, outdoor pursuits and conservation
