An exciting opportunity to be at the leading edge of iwi conservation is being offered for a fixed-term period until June 2018, based in Napier.

Hawke’s Bay Operations Team seeks a dynamic individual who is committed to maintaining excellent communication with, and between, the Department and iwi. You will possess the ability to work in a diverse and challenging environment.

The focus of the role is the implementation of Department of Conservation’s Treaty of Waitangi Settlement commitments for Ngati Hineuru, Heretaunga Tamatea, Ngati Pahauwera and Maungaharuru Tangitu. This will include developing departmental procedures in relation to the Post Settlement Governance Entities protocols. You will be working to foster a positive, collaborative and enduring relationship to achieve conservation policies, actions and outcomes sought by both the Governance Entities and the Department.

This will be a demanding position for which patience, flexibility, collaboration and initiative will be essential qualities.

The successful candidate will be comfortable engaging and working in partnership with Post-Settlement Governance Entities, iwi, tangata whenua and will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the implications of the Treaty on today’s society and conservation. A highly developed sense of professionalism and a current driver's licence. Some out-of-hours work will be required.
