He angitūtanga | About the role
As a Ranger, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding our native species by implementing and maintaining effective predator control programmes . Your work will protect the Tara iti/ New Zealand Fairy Tern, New Zealand's rarest native bird.
The position will be focussed on:
- Trapping, baiting, monitoring, and data collection for target pest species
- Set up, maintain, and check trap lines in diverse terrains
- Collect, record, and analyse field data on predator activities
- Maintain and repair predator control equipment, including traps and bait stations
- Collaborate with others to achieve broader conservation goals
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:
- Physically fit with backcountry experience
- Trapping and predator control experience
- Proficiency in using and maintaining various types of traps and pest control equipment
- Familiarity with TrapNZ, GIS and GPS technologies for mapping and tracking purposes
- Current first aid certificate
- Good basic knowledge of conservation
- LUV certificate
- Experience 4-wheel driving offroad, especially in sandy or wet conditions
- Have a practical background, ‘can do' attitude'
- Full New Zealand Driver's Licence (ability to drive a manual)
- Strong health and safety focus
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Accurate and detailed record keeping
- Proficiency in oral and written communication, including the use of VHF radio systems

The salary range for this position is $58,816 to $66,578 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
