He angitūtanga | About the role
The Ranger, Project Lead Biodiversity position will be focussed on biosecurity. You will join the Operations based in Palmerston North team to work alongside our Treaty partners and key stakeholders such as the Ministry for Primary Industries, regional and local councils, landowners, iwi, hapu, whanau, and the wider community to advocate and achieve great outcomes for conservation that are sustainable and continue beyond the project.
The purpose of the project/role is managing invasive weed incursions to zero density, coordinating and carrying out control of known incursions and regular surveillance along the coast from Kapiti to Taranaki. This will be achieved by:
- project planning, delivery and monitoring
- contract management
- building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, community groups, and iwi, whānau and hapū
- data analysis and reporting
- developing and sharing best practice
- raising awareness of biosecurity risks in key communities.

We are looking for a team player who is passionate and enthusiastic about biodiversity and the conservation of New Zealand's natural flora and fauna. You will be highly motivated, well organised, have a positive attitude and show initiative.
If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:
- excellent communication, relationship management and leadership skills
- significant experience leading projects or programmes, including planning, implementation, supervision, delivery within budget and timeframes, and reporting
- proven contract management experience
- proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, GIS and other systems
- outstanding planning and organisational skills, with attention to detail and commitment to achieving team objectives
- a strong commitment to exceptional health and safety work practices and able to promote this culture among others
- current full Class 1 New Zealand driver licence.
Desirable:
- current first aid certificate
- growsafe certificate
- knowledge of biosecurity, and/or weed management
- demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Tikanga Māori and Te Ao Māori.
