He angitūtanga | About the role
The departments Strategic Projects Team is underway with the development of a new visitor experience called the Taranaki Crossing in the national park. The Taranaki Crossing refers to the main track network enabling visitors to travel by foot from Dawson falls along the slopes of the maunga, across Ahukawakawa and over the Pouakai Ranges to the end of Mangorei Road. The completion of this exciting new development will include 25 kilometres of upgraded track, a new bridge across the Manganui Gorge, an upgraded Pouakai Hut, signage and some key visitor site upgrades.
Alongside Taranaki Crossing, the department is also working to deliver a strategic project located in the Kauri Coast region of the Northern North Island. The project is a partnership project with Te Iwi O Te Roroa who are tangata whenua to the Waipoua region.
Rākau Rangatira seeks to build new fit for purpose tourist infrastructure which ensures protection of our taonga Kauri, and to pair this with other access management and security tools and mechanisms. The project has just entered the preliminary design stage.
As our next project coordinator, you will be responsible for supporting successful project outcomes by providing coordination support. There are opportunities to work in the field with the team from time to time. The role offers flexible working hours and locations, some working from home is available.

Mō te tīma | About the team
You will work amongst a national team of project managers, works officers and coordinators delivering projects within the Strategic Projects Team. Team members are based in district offices around the motu, within proximity to the projects they are delivering. Depending on your location you will be based in either the Taranaki, Auckland or Kauri Coast office where there's great local support. Working in a district office enables you to be part of the wider DOC whanau, a real benefit of working for Te Papa Atawhai.
