We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our Heritage and Visitors Team in the Wakatipu Basin, Queenstown/Glenorchy over the 2022/2023 season.

If you love working in the outdoors and have good practical skills with a proven ability to be versatile, understand work in the outdoors, then this is the job for you!

The Wakatipu District is home to some of Te Papa Atawhai's premier day visitor tracks through areas of some of the best scenery in the country. Mountains, lakes, indigenous grassland, and forest landscapes provide settings for a nationally important tourism industry and a full range of recreational opportunities.

 

He angitūtanga | About the role

Your main focus of work will be to work with a small team maintaining our amenity areas and vast track network throughout the Wakatipu Basin and ensure that they are kept to a high standard and in accordance with Department standards. At other times you may be involved in other duties relating to the wider recreation/historic team.

 

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

We would love to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience with weed trimmers/lawnmowers/chainsaws and other mechanised machinery. (Training will also be given in some of these fields).
  • Have a keen eye for health and safety, both for staff and members of the public
  • Pride yourself on great communication skills and a drive to work with the public on a daily basis, and with people from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Have the initiative to work on your own when needed
  • Describe yourself as having a “can do attitude” and willing to go the extra mile
  • A current First Aid certificate
  • A current Full driver's license.
  • Backcountry experience
  • High level of physical fitness

The salary range for this position is $47,320 - $59,978 (pro-rata) with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
