He angitūtanga | About the role

The biodiversity team undertakes weed control within the Tāmaki Makaurau district as directed by your supervisor. This is a 6-month fixed term position beginning in September. You will be joining a vibrant and hard-working team as you deliver conservation outcomes across the motu.

The primary function of the role is helping to manage weed eradication across Tāmaki Makaurau district. The work  will include monitoring, inspecting, treating, recording and reporting on sites in the Tāmaki Makaurau district. You will be expected to maintain safe work practices with health and safety a priority in this mahi.


Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:

  • Weed and plant identification skills enabling you to complete field assessments as required then follow up on control applications as identified.
  • Having Growsafe qualifications will enable you to complete the tasks on site, record data and report on progress in field.
  • Self-starter and confidence to carry a project from start to finish with the support of Senior Biodiversity Ranger and Supervisor
  • Experience with GIS, GPS, and VHF
  • Team player who can work closely with others in a collaborative to deliver and achieve conservation outcomes across the district.
  • Physically fit
  • Computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office and report writing.


Mō te tīma | About the team

This position works within the Tāmaki Makaurau biodiversity team consisting of a Senior Ranger, Supervisor, three permanent biodiversity Rangers and several Fixed Term Seasonal Rangers. You will be expected to join team meetings attended by the wider Tāmaki Makaurau Operations teams – Marine, Tara iti, Visitor Heritage and Community.
