We are looking for an inspiring and influential Director to join our Policy and Visitors Group.

It's an exciting time for conservation in New Zealand. New Zealanders are increasingly rising to the challenge to help protect what makes us unique in the world.  At the same time, a growing population, growing tourism industry and increasing interest in getting into the outdoors means greater use of public lands and waters. Having clarified how our heritage and visitor system should work we are ready to take on these challenges.

Reporting to the Deputy Director-General, Policy and Visitors the Unit's work covers strategy, investment, insights, experience design, spatial planning, operational policy and advisory functions.

You will implement the new systems and structure, and hire and engage a committed leadership team to shape the direction of the Heritage and Visitor system as a whole. Building influential networks, especially with our Heritage and Visitor industry groups will be critical to your role; as will assisting the members of your own leadership team to align their work within the Department's strategic objectives.

The role is fulltime and Wellington-based, although your managers and staff are spread across the country, so occasional travel will be required.  Significant experience in leading the implementation of strategic change, including the development of new systems and processes, is essential.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
