We have an opportunity for an outgoing, fast-thinking, team-player to join us in the high-profile job of ensuring that our visitors have outstanding experiences on public conservation lands.

The Recreation and Tourism team is a busy, high performing team responsible for a wide range of work to support DOCs visitor programme. Work includes analysis of visitor demand and behaviour, the development of systems to improve the delivery of work and wider scale recreation planning.

This fixed term role will:

• Lead work to shape how DOC manages recreation and tourism

• Work as part of cross-department teams to improve our internal systems

• Build the understanding of DOC staff about what we are aiming to achieve

• Support a range of projects in the team

This is an exciting time to join DOC's Recreation and Tourism team with the opportunity to greatly influence how tourism is managed in New Zealand aligned with lots of appetite for change. This situation needs you to be courageous, to be able to navigate a challenging range of perspectives, and to bring high quality analysis and communication skills that shape the debate.

To succeed in this role, you will have:  

• Strong background and knowledge in tourism, and/or recreation management

• Proven background in project management

• Have excellent communication skills

• Be organised and professional

• Get on well with a wide range of people, and keen to get stuck in and contribute to the success of the team.

You will ideally need to be available for 6 months between early October 2017 and end April 2018.
