The Customer Engagement Unit is looking for a savvy Social Media Advisor to work within DOC's social media team on a 2-year fixed term contract. This is an exciting opportunity for a social media expert who can assist in the implementation of DOC's social media strategy to engage more people with conservation and deliver better service online.

 

Reporting to the Team Lead Social Media, you will:

  • maintain and develop the Department's core social media communities using exceptional customer service skills and knowledge of social media engagement best practice
  • assist with the implementation of new social media approaches
  • create and manage social media campaigns on behalf of the department using your knowledge and ability to create exciting, inspiring and informative digital content
  • optimise and improve DOC's social media approach based on analytics and performance data
  • provide social media guidance, advice and support to enable DOC staff to build their own social media capability
  • scan the external environment for trends, best practice and opportunities
  • be comfortable responding quickly to breaking stories/conversations, operating outside office hours and responding on behalf of the Department
  • bring an understanding of communications, digital channels, marketing and government relevant for a social media role.

 

Desired skills and experience:

  • At least two years' experience in a social media/communications/digital role
  • Thorough knowledge of social media ecosystem and a history of success in hands-on execution of social media initiatives
  • Track record of innovation and creative thinking
  • Superior interpersonal skills, ability to work with people at many levels, influencing skills and a customer service ethos
  • Problem solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Self-starter; able to manage a workload without constant direction
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Team player
  • A knowledge or understanding of working for government
  • A personal interest in nature, conservation and outdoor recreation

 

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
