We are looking for a Technical Advisor to join our team in Christchurch. You will be part of a team that supports DOC's animal pest, weed and biosecurity functions. The work of the team includes advice, research, innovation, and systems such as best practice and operating standards.


The Advisor will lead and contribute to improvement projects to reduce the risk of harm to non-target threatened species from predator control tools such as traps and vertebrate pesticides. The successful candidate will also coordinate the Biodiversity group's response to significant advice requests on predator control tools, for example relating to the government's Predator Free 2050 goals.


The successful applicant will have:

  • Ability to take information from a range of sources (e.g., research papers, operational reports, legislation, industry) and translate these into best practice and operating standards
  • Strong communication skills, including speaking and writing for a range of target audiences
  • Knowledge or experience of invasive species management, ideally with a focus on reducing risk to threatened species
  • A tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience in a related field
