There is one Advice Manager (Southern) role.

This is a 2 year fixed term role or secondment.

The preferred location for this role is Christchurch, but Nelson may also be considered.

  • Excellent leadership opportunity

The Department of Conservation (DOC) received a significant funding boost in 2018 of $181.6 million over four years.   This is one of the biggest funding increases that DOC has ever received, and it will benefit New Zealand's native plants, wildlife and natural landscapes.  $76 million of this funding is for biodiversity initiatives across land, freshwater and marine ecosystems, which means that DOC's Biodiversity Group is expanding in order to deliver its ambitious new work programme.

Within the Terrestrial Science Unit three new Manager roles have been created. These are excellent opportunities to provide leadership across some of the more complex and challenging conservation issues facing New Zealand.

All three roles require candidates with strong leadership experience including people leadership, strategy, financial management, planning and programme management. Applications will be welcomed from candidates with a strong match with the leadership requirements of these roles if you also have a good working knowledge of, or experience in, areas relevant to biodiversity, ecology or environmental science.

This is a two-year fixed-term contract covering for a secondment. This role leads the South Island's science and technical advice team, focused on the protection and recovery of terrestrial ecosystems and threatened species. Candidates must have a track record of strong relationship-building, connecting and collaborating, both internally and externally.  The ability to build local knowledge and networks relevant to conservation-related issues will be critical.
