DOC's Scientific Investment programme is ramping up to better understand our unique environment here in Aotearoa. With a range of agencies including government, tertiary, CRIs and iwi involved, these roles will help understand and influence the New Zealand Science System to direct resource into biodiversity conservation research and outcomes.

 

We are seeking expressions of interest from accomplished individuals within the science or investment/research sector, preferably in the area of science relevant to three priority biodiversity research areas - marine, freshwater and threat management.

 

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • strong credibility and leadership across the NZ Science System with a good understanding of conservation issues
  • an understanding of the strategic context of science investment to drive collaboration and investment accordingly
  • a track record of working effectively with a range of stakeholders including iwi and other government agencies; as well as senior executives
  • an ability to lead innovative scientific thinking and identify issues and needs
  • commercial nous to identify and achieve growth opportunities
  • a level of comfort in a public facing and active engagement role

 

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
