He angitūtanga | About the role
This position will see you work across the Greymouth district ensuring the maintenance, restoration and protection of our heritage and visitor sites. This position is practically focused and will require you to carry out maintenance work on our extensive historic sites located around the Greymouth district, both front country and back country. You will also work with the team to deliver our visitor work, maintaining tracks, huts, bridges, and amenity sites. This will require you to:
- work with the wider team, delivering on visitor focused field work
- working with the team to maintain our extensive range of heritage sites
- work with chainsaws, scrub bars, helicopters, power carriers and other field equipment
- maintaining front country and back country tracks, bridges, huts, structures, and amenities.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
We are looking for a confident communicator and great team player who has a passion for protecting Aotearoa's heritage and visitor sites. We want to hear from you if you have:
- hands on and practical skills ideally with chainsaws and scrub bars as well as carpentry, plumbing and back country experience
- a high level of physical fitness and experience in the backcountry, particularly in remote and rugged terrain
- excellent planning and organisational skills, with an ability to maintain attention to detail and meet deadlines while managing competing demands
- ability to learn quickly, computer savvy skills and experience using computer databases and management information systems would be an advantage
- ability to work as a team member, a team leader and alone
- strong health and safety focus
- a full New Zealand Driver's licence
- the ability to live and work in New Zealand
- outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
- an interest and experience in New Zealand Heritage
Desired:
- previous experience in project and contract management as well as an understanding of asset management
- experience with 4WDs and around helicopters, scrub bars, working in back country environments etc

The Greymouth District offices consists of 22 permanent staff, with four of those being based in Reefton. We have three teams within the office, the Heritage and Visitor team, Biodiversity, and Community teams. We have a great positive work culture, and often work across teams when there is priority work on. The salary range for this position is $54,314 to $69,401 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
