He angitūtanga | About the Role
The Statutory Manager is part of the Northern North Island leadership team, and a key support role to the Regional Operations Director, providing visibility and advice on our statutory requirements from a regional perspective.
The role provides a key link between our national and regional teams on our regulatory obligations, especially as there is a significant programme of conservation legislation reform over the next few years.
This is a highly collaborative role working with a wide-ranging group of internal and external stakeholders, focussing on driving efficiency and being an honourable treaty partner. You will also work with regional leadership around strategy and implementation of this across our wider operations team.
You will also be responsible for:
- Maintaining the positive relationship and partnership with the region's two Conservation Boards
- Identifying, developing and implementing improvements in statutory processes to drive efficiencies within the region
- Providing expertise and support to our regional leadership and wider team with statutory processes, requirements, and best practise
- Ensuring timelines and deadlines are adhered to
- Overseeing and managing Conservation Board Support Officers, ensuring they have what they need to perform their daily tasks
- Supporting staff with change having a particular focus on Te Tiriti, effective implementation of statutory Treaty claims settlement, and giving effect to our partnership with Māori in a meaningful way.

As the Statutory Manager, you will have exceptional communication skills with the ability to work across teams with ease. You will be a natural relationship manager with the ability to think strategically and act operationally with a high level of interpersonal skills.
To be successful in this role demonstrable experience working with legislation is essential. Applied knowledge of the Conservation Act, including implementation of S.4 is essential.
Any of the following knowledge/experience is highly desirable, but not essential: RMA, Wildlife Act, Statutory Land Management.
Specialist skills and experience:
- Strong expertise and knowledge of statutory systems, processes, and continuous improvement
- Highly skilled and adept relationship builder with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to review and analyse and draw insights from complex information
- Ability to identify risks and opportunities and evaluate them to optimise decision making.
- Solutions focused mindset with proven experience through to delivery and implementation.
