We have vacancies for two seasonal rangers on the islands of Rangitoto/Motutapu and Motuihe in the Hauraki Gulf.  These islands may host a thousand visitors on a good day in summer, and you will be assisting the resident island ranger to look after the facilities these visitors need.


Your tasks will include:

  • Maintaining tracks and structures and mowing amenity areas
  • Helping to maintain power, water and sewage systems
  • Collecting campground fees
  • Preventing dogs and illegal fires on the islands
  • Assisting with biosecurity
  • Assisting with volunteers and visitors


We are looking for one Summer Ranger for each of these two islands, to work closely with the resident ranger on each island.  The successful candidates will have sound practical skills and be good at working with the public in a variety of situations.  Island rangers normally work a 10 days on, 4 days off shift, which includes working most weekends.  Basic accommodation is provided.  A current first aid certificate and experience and qualifications in working with tractors, mowers and all-terrain vehicles would be an advantage.


The term of employment will be from mid-December (depending on the successful candidate's availability) until April 2018.
