We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Ranger to join our Recreation & Historic team in the Auckland Inner Islands.


You will be a team player with great public relations, relationship management and communication skills to work with DOC staff and with our community stakeholders, contractors, and Iwi.


This position is located in Maunguika/North Head. You will travel out to the Islands of Rangitoto, Motutapu, Motuihe, Tiritiri Matangi, Motuora, Kawau Island and Hauturu (Little Barrier) to both implement and oversee work programmes for DOC staff, contractors and volunteers.


Responsibilities include:

  • delivery of work planning for staff, capital projects, operational planning and budget management
  • ensuring a strong focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of staff, contractors and visitors is present in planning and monitoring the work
  • providing guidance, technical advice and knowledge to the team and manager
  • continually looking for best practise and quality assurance and making recommendations to the Operations Manager


You will have:

  • skills and experience in recreation and historic
  • great people skills
  • experience in recreational and historic land management
  • a strong knowledge base in conservation
  • excellent planning and organisational skills
  • proficiency in computer use, data entry and analysis
  • physical fitness and an ability to work outdoors in a range of conditions and habitats
  • a tertiary qualification in a relevant field is desirable but not essential


Training in departmental systems will be provided.
