We have a vacancy for a 6-month temporary Hut Ranger Co-ordinator on the Rakiura Great Walk on Stewart Island over the busy Great Walks season November 2017 to April 2018.

 

Your role includes:
• Work planning and reporting.
• Logistical support for the hut ranger team
• Induction, training and support for staff and volunteers
• Providing information and support to visitors
• Hut and track maintenance within the Rakiura National Park
• Visitor Safety
• Some pest control work

 

We are looking for a responsible and reliable team leader, who is not afraid of hard work, and who can demonstrate or learn the following:
• Interpersonal skills, including the ability to work individually and in a team with the willingness and capacity to interact, liaise and consult with a variety of people
• Have an ability to live and work in an isolated situation.  To work effectively without supervision on a wide variety of tasks, and be able to problem solve and work through issues in isolation when necessary
• Be able to communicate effectively both and be familiar with and confident in the use of VHF radio systems
• Have a practical background with the ability, skills and physical fitness to be able to carry out routine maintenance and building/plant repairs, track construction and maintenance
• Current driver licence would be an advantage

 

The successful candidate will be required to stay onsite at the Great Walk Huts for extended periods of time.
