Are you someone who loves the outdoors, has excellent practical biodiversity skills and a passion for conservation? If yes, then this is the job for you!

 

As a Ranger (Operations) you will be joining our dedicated Biodiversity team in Te Anau, DOC's largest team of biodiversity staff, carrying out critical conservation work throughout Fiordland National Park and its surrounds.  Your role will be diverse, no two days will be the same!  Your role will require you to be away from home for long periods at a time (up to a week or more, often by yourself).  It will involve you working with others on a variety of biodiversity conservation projects including:

 

  • Predator control and monitoring
  • Pest Plant control and surveillance
  • Ecosystem restoration (terrestrial and marine)
  • Threatened species monitoring and management
  • Infrastructure maintenance

 

We are looking for a responsible and reliable team player, who is not afraid of hard work, and who ideally, has the following skills:

 

  • Relevant experience and/or qualifications related to natural heritage (flora, fauna or ecosystems) or conservation management, with a New Zealand focus
  • Practical understanding of New Zealand biodiversity
  • Able to confidently work in remote back country locations, with a high level of fitness
  • Able to work in demanding environments with challenging terrain and under extreme weather conditions
  • An innovative, positive and collaborative style
  • Practical experience in working with others, as well as independently
  • Sound computer skills and experience
  • A full New Zealand Driver's Licence
