These are fixed-term roles for seven (7) months.


Are you someone who loves the outdoors, has lots of practical skills and enjoys working with people? If yes, then this is the job for you.


As a Ranger, Operations, you will be joining our talented delivery teams carrying out critical conservation work on the Routeburn, Greenstone-Caples and Rees-Dart tracks.


Your role is broad and involves working alone and with others on all manner of conservation projects including:

  • backcountry track, hut and campground maintenance
  • interpretation and information services to trampers
  • threatened species management
  • visitor and historic asset management
  • enforce laws and regulations


We are looking for a fit, responsible and reliable team player, with an aptitude for outdoor pursuits, and who has the following skills:

  • a good basic knowledge and interest in conservation
  • strong communication skills and self confidence
  •  knowledge and/or experience in field delivery work
  • experience in facilities and track maintenance  
  • a current First Aid certificate
  • a valid driver's licence


This position works on a roster system and applicants must be available to complete the full period of employment between October 8, 2018 to May 3, 2019. The position requires the incumbent to work weekends and/or statutory holidays and to wear a DOC uniform as per the uniform policy.


Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
