We have a vacancy for a Ranger in our Recreation/Historic team in Geraldine.


The Recreation portfolio ranges from maintaining backcountry huts within the Hakatere and Te Kahui Kaupeka Conservation Parks to the popular Mt Somers track and the Te Araroa trail.


We maintain six campsites, located between the Hunter hills in the south to Peel Forest north of Geraldine. These campsites are maintained with a ride on lawn mower and scrub bar. Toilets are also cleaned on a regular maintenance schedule.


The historic element of this role includes maintaining our historic sites within the region. Examples include the historic Mt Harper ice rink in the Rangitata valley, Monavale school and the historic Hakatere stone cottage.


We are looking for a staff member who is visitor focused, maintaining our huts, tracks and campsites to a high standard.


The ideal candidate will have a strong tramping/outdoor background and be physically fit. You will also need strong practical skills and good problem solving skills.


You will need to be able to work well as part of a team and be self motivated as you will also work alone at times. A good understanding of technology is an important part of this role as our work is managed through a phone application.


A full, clean driver licence and experience with trailers is essential and a pre employment drug test will be carried out.
