Are you someone who is passionate about recreation?  If you love working in the outdoors and have good practical field skills then this is the ranger job for you! We have a vacancy for a Ranger in our Recreation/Historic team in Oamaru.

The Oamaru Recreation portfolio includes maintaining our access tracks and carparks for the popular Moeraki boulders, Katiki point, Shag point and Bushy beach. We maintain two campsites, Glencoe and Trotters gorge.

Campsites and amenity areas are maintained with a ride on lawn mower and scrub bar. Toilets are also cleaned on a regular maintenance schedule.

The historic element of this role includes maintaining our historic sites within the region. Examples include Maori rock art sites in the Waitaki valley and the Studholme railway embankment track. There is a small biodiversity element to this role. Previous experience working with penguins and New Zealand Fur seals would be an advantage.

We are looking for a staff member who is visitor focused, maintaining our amenity areas, campsites and tracks to a high standard. The ideal candidate will have a strong recreation background and be physically fit. You will also need strong practical skills and good problem solving skills. A good understanding of technology is an important part of this role as our work is managed through a phone application. You will need to work well as part of a small team.

A full, clean driver licence and experience with trailers is essential and a pre- employment drug test will be carried out.
