This is a fixed-term role for eight (8) months.

 

Are you someone who loves the outdoors, has lots of practical skills and enjoys working with people? If yes, then this is the job for you.

 

As an amenity ranger you will be joining our talented recreation/historic maintenance team in Arthur's Pass, who report to the Rangiora, North Canterbury area office.

 

Your role involves ensuring an excellent experience for visitors to amenity/campsite areas throughout Arthur's Pass National Park, and the scenic corridor of SH73 to Rangiora through;

 

  • Ensuring amenities and their facilities (toilets, cooking shelters, signs, car parks, campsites) are cleaned daily and maintained to a high standard
  • Care and maintenance of amenity areas to a high standard, including mowing lawns and weed control
  • Emotional intelligence to be able to maintain positive internal and external working relationships
  • Excellent communication skills to be able to monitor the compliance of amenity areas, this includes collecting campsite fees and other aspects to ensure a safe visitor experience for all member of the public

 

We are looking for a responsible and reliable team player, with an attention to detail and pride in their work. Additionally, someone who is a self-starter, mechanically minded can work independently and well with others who carries a high standard of work. Other skills that will be advantageous are:

  • Knowledge and/or experience in field operations work/carpentry skills/machine operator experience
  • Technical knowledge, AMIS, computers word/excel, smartphones, portable Eftpos devices, radios.
  • Experience and/or qualifications in working with chainsaws, 4WD vehicles, towing heavy trailers and operating other small plant machinery
  • Current First Aid certificate
  • Valid full driver's licence, wheel tracks and rollers preferable
  • Experience in facilities maintenance preferable
  • Current Growsafe Certificate would be an advantage
  • Problem solving abilities, initiative, and a positive ‘can-do' attitude
  • Good basic knowledge of conservation and the enthusiasm to share the knowledge to the public
  • Good communication and negotiation skills
        
        

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
