Are you someone who loves big open tussock lands as well as native bush? Do you have lots of practical skills and enjoy working with people? If yes then this job is definitely for you.

 

We have a rare and exciting vacancy in our Operations team based in Hanmer Springs. We need an individual, who is a proven effective team player, is great at communication, is a self-starter and has a passion for New Zealand's flora, fauna and ensuring our visitors are safe while visiting this special part of the country.

 

As a key member of our small tight knit team, you will help deliver:

  • Track, hut and structure maintenance throughout the front and backcountry sites in North Canterbury
  • Working with the local community on all things conservation
  • Supervision of volunteers and temporary staff

 

The successful applicant will ideally have:

  • A relevant tertiary or trade qualification in carpentry or building
  • Experience in the backcountry and a high level of fitness
  • A current first aid certificate and full driver's licence
  • The ability to work well alone or in a diverse and highly productive team
  • The ability to stay away from home on a regular basis
  • Strong knowledge and experience in relevant field work programmes and facility management including carpentry, use of chainsaws, scrub bars and other motorised plant/equipment
  • Computer literate and experience using GPS and mobile devices

 

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
