Are you someone who loves the outdoors, has lots of practical skills and enjoys working with people? If yes then this is the job for you.

We are looking for a Ranger to be based at Haast Awarua for twelve months.

The focus of this position is to carry out Haast tokoeka (kiwi) recovery work, and other biodiversity related work in South Westland. We are looking for someone to join our team who is passionate about the conservation of New Zealand's natural flora and fauna, is highly motivated, has good all round technical skills - including navigation and field skills, and importantly loves living in a remote and beautiful place. Telemetry skills and previous kiwi management experience would be a bonus.

As a Ranger you will be actively working across a range of different projects including:

• kiwi recovery, primarily Haast tokoeka;
• pest management;
• threatened species management; including mohua, Fiordland crested penguin (tawaki), and marine mammals.

Your day to day work may take you across the district, and to other parts of the region, carrying out biodiversity work programmes on and off public conservation land in accordance with work plans.

The successful applicant will have:

• the ability to work well in a small team
• proven back country experience, working/travelling alone off tracks in mountainous and forested terrain
• a very high level of physical fitness
• good computer and data management skills
• able to overnight in the field when required
• be keen and quick to learn
• a current Class 1 driver licence

Ideally you will also have a current first aid certificate and wild animal handling experience
