We are looking for a person to join our team as a Ranger, focused on pest animal control for one year on a fixed term.


In this job you will be a key member of the team that undertakes large scale pest control work, trapping, pest monitoring, conservation law compliance work and other biodiversity work as required.  Your primary focus will be preparing and delivering aerial pest control operations for the Department's Battle for our Birds program in South Westland.


We want someone who is passionate and enthusiastic about “threats” work and its importance to the conservation of New Zealand's natural flora and fauna.  You will need to be highly motivated, well organised with good computer skills.  South Westland is an awesome place to live and work - in amongst some of the most spectacular country in NZ, so your interests and hobbies will have to be well suited.


The successful applicant will have:

  • the ability to work well alone and in a small team 
  • Have very good communication and computer skills. Able to read and assimilate detailed standard operating procedure requirements – using these to guide your preparation of quality applications, fact sheets, reports etc.
  • A good level of physical fitness; being strong and capable in the outdoors.
  • keen and quick to learn
  • a current full Class 1 driver's license.


Ideally you will also have:

  • a current first aid certificate
  • Light Utility Vehicle (LUV) qualifications and experience and/or other practical outdoors work experience (fencing, farming, pest control, weed control etc)
  • Growsafe and Approved Handler Agrichemicals


Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
