The Department of Conservation initiated exciting large scale biodiversity programmes aimed specifically at protecting the biodiversity values of a significant landscape stretching from Kahurangi Point south to Kohaihai River and with a special focus on the Heaphy Valley and nearby Denniston Plateau.

You will have the opportunity to lead, plan and manage the implementation of biodiversity management plans for these places.

We wish to recruit a person who can demonstrate strong and proven experience of managing complex and large ecological management work programmes.

The sites encompass a range of special species and ecosystems that will require a variety of management applications and approaches. An adaptive management approach is proposed for the sites that will place this management at the leading edge conservation practice in New Zealand.

You will have technical biodiversity skills to embrace these challenges and provide a high level of success to ensure the long term viability of species and ecosystems at sites.

You will work closely with contractors, Iwi, Departmental staff and a technical advisory group to achieve programme targets.

Essential skills include strong communication and relationship ability, competency in using project management tools, excellent planning and organising skills, ecosystem monitoring experience and a sound understanding of health and safety systems. The successful appointee to the position will be based in Westport.

Please apply online. Applications must include a cover letter, a CV and evidence of the required capabilities as per the role description.
