Are you a strong leader seeking a new challenge?  

We are looking for a passionate and committed person to join our Biodiversity team in the Sounds District.


Working to maintain a high level of biosecurity for the Sounds Islands, you will work co-operatively with a well-functioning team to deliver essential work programmes across the district.


As a Supervisor, you will guide the staff on Te Pākeka/Maud and Takapourewa/Stephens Islands to deliver their respective programmes of work. The role will also involve very close liaison with tangata whenua especially with Takapourewa/Stephens Island where there is joint management. To be successful in this role you will have strong relationship management and communication skills.


This is a diverse and rewarding role that will see most of the supervision carried out remotely.

You will also be responsible for leading the Districts island quarantine programme, which is an essential part of offering protection to the islands unique ecosystems. This will require high attention to detail and organisational skills.

  • Strong and proven leadership skills
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Skilled at coaching, training and supporting staff
  • Excellent planning, organisational skills and attention to detail
  • High personal commitment to Health and Safety
  • Practical experience in management of threatened plant or animal programmes
  • Proven ability to operate in the backcountry
  • A current First Aid certificate
  • A valid full Drivers Licence


Desired Experience:

  • A natural heritage or conservation management qualification
  • Experience working with 4WD vehicles and LUV's
  • Experience with boating
  • A current Grow Safe and Approved Handlers certificate


Due to the nature of the role, you may be required to complete a pre-employment health questionnaire and undertake a medical examination.
