Are you keen to use your skills to help shape a strong team? Do you have the desire, drive and commitment to maintain a high level of biosecurity for Sounds islands? Are you also willing to work co-operatively with other Sounds Supervisors, Senior Rangers and Operations Manager to constantly strive for a well-functioning District team?

If you have answered yes to all of these questions and believe you possess the necessary skills the Sounds District would like you to join its motivated biodiversity team.

As Supervisor, you will guide the staff on Te Pākeka/Maud and Takapourewa/Stephens Islands to deliver their respective programmes of work. The role will also involve very close liaison with tangata whenua especially with Takapourewa/Stephens Island where there is joint management. This challenging role will see most of the supervision carried out remotely.

You will also be responsible for leading the Districts island quarantine programme. High standards must be constantly maintained for this task to offer protection to our islands unique ecosystems.

Opportunity also exists to lead other biodiversity projects within the District.

The successful applicant will have:

• Strong and proven leadership skills

• Very good communication skills, both written and verbal, and an ability to get on with people

• Skilled at coaching, training and supporting staff

• Excellent planning, organisational skills and attention to detail

• High personal commitment to Health and Safety

• A natural heritage or conservation management qualification would be an advantage

• Practical management of threatened plant or animal programmes

• Proven ability operating in the backcountry

• Experience working with 4WD vehicles and LUV's would be an advantage

• Some previous boating experience is desirable.

• A current Grow Safe and Approved Handlers certificate would be an advantage

• A current First Aid certificate

• A valid full Drivers Licence

Due to the nature of the role, you may be required to complete a pre-employment health questionnaire and undertake a medical examination.
