Are you passionate about maintaining recreation and historic assets and providing quality visitor experiences?  If yes, then we want to hear from you!


As a Ranger (Recreation Historic), you will contribute to the Recreation and Historic work programme in the Manawatu District. Other work may include assisting with the Biodiversity and Community work programmes, rural fire, and responding to wildlife emergencies. Your main tasks will include:

  • Assisting with contracts and monitoring the contractors work
  • Management of facilities, amenities and sites
  • Visitor information
  • Visitor hazard management systems
  • Construction and maintenance of sites and assets
  • Leading a team of highly motivated rangers


The successful applicants will have:

  • Experience and qualifications with use of chainsaws
  • A current First Aid certificate
  • A full Drivers Licence
  • Experience in the of use of data gathering tools
  • Ability to interpret GIS information and produce maps
  • A working knowledge and experience using computer databases and management information systems
  • Rural firefighting experience and qualifications
  • Fencing skills


Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
