This is an exciting opportunity for someone with well developed, high quality community conservation management, and interpersonal skills to join our team of rangers in Whanganui. We are a small, friendly team who are looking for someone who can work well as part of our team and contribute positively to our busy programme.


Can you help us to manage the diverse and extensive public conservation lands across the Whanganui District, including the Whanganui National Park?


Our community team is involved in a wide range of work across the District. We are looking for someone who will be able to support the programme and has specialist interest in education and event management.


Ideally you will have proven experience with:

  • Event management
  • Education delivery
  • Strong relationship and networking skills
  • Engaging, consulting and liaising with Tangata Whenua
  • Supporting community initiatives in conservation
  • Project and business planning skills
  • Strategic thinking and a political awareness


You will have experience, demonstrated ability and attributes in following policies and procedures, be accurate and timely with reports, an effective communicator and have a proven ability to meet deadlines.


Being able to fully engage with and collaborate with Tangata Whenua and a range of stakeholders and community groups is also an essential part of this job.


You may be required to work in the back country and outside normal working hours in the remote conditions of the Whanganui National Park and surrounding public conservation lands. You will also contribute to emergency work including fire control as required.


Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
