Are you passionate about recreation and the protection of New Zealand's historic assets?

We have an exciting opportunity for the right person, as a Ranger in our Recreation and Historic Team in the Taranaki District, based in New Plymouth.  

In this role, you will have key responsibilities in the following work areas:

  • Management and improvement of visitor assets including facilities and amenities
  • Management and maintenance of significant historic sites
  • Visitor risk and hazard management systems


We are looking for someone who:

  • Has 3-4 years experience in carpentry, facilities, amenities and historic site management and/or relevant qualifications
  • Has had experience managing projects
  • Has an understanding of iwi protocols and our responsibilities regarding the Treaty of Waitangi
  • Is skilled in training and supporting staff
  • Has a strong focus on Health and Safety and helps promote a safe working culture
  • Confident using a range of computer software applications including asset management systems, data loggers, GPS devices and GIS mapping
  • Can plan and report on work including financial budgets
  • Has experience and aptitude for working and living in remote bush environments
  • Excellent public relations skills, with the ability to communicate and develop relationships with our communities, neighboring landowners, contractors, stakeholders and Iwi
  • Has a current First Aid Certificate
