Are you someone who is passionate about the conservation of New Zealand's natural flora and fauna, skilled at field delivery and passionate about sharing your skills and knowledge with others? If yes, then this is the job for you.


The biodiversity work in Taranaki focuses on threatened plant management, threatened species protection, pest control (animal and plants) and ecosystem protection. We also work closely with the Taranaki Mounga Project which has launched an ambitious 10-year project to transform the ecology of Egmont National Park and its surrounds.


Key functions of the position include:

  • Providing technical biodiversity advice and support to the Operations Manager and other internal and external parties
  • Taking a lead role in biodiversity planning across the district
  • Assisting the Operations Manager and Supervisor, Biodiversity with management of work assignments across the biodiversity programme.
  • Integrating business as usual work with the Taranaki Mounga Project.


The successful applicant will have:

  • Relevant experience in conservation management
  • A tertiary qualification in either Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Conservation Management or equivalent experience
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with Iwi and community groups
  • Proven ability to plan and report on your own and others work programmes efficiently
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Experience with data management and record keeping
  • Specialist experience/qualifications in threatened plant and animal populations
  • Experience with GIS tools and managing spatial data.


At times, this position may require you to work in the backcountry, outside normal office hours and away from the Ngāmotu/New Plymouth office.
