An exciting opportunity to work in our Whitianga team is now available.  The Whitianga district extends from Coroglen in the south to Port Jackson in the north incorporating stunning off shore islands, the majority of which are predator free and home to populations of rare and protected species.  It is blessed with a rich heritage culturally and historically and offers many recreational activities for our visitors including 5 very popular campgrounds; one of which is the biggest in the country!


We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic person to join the biodiversity team.  You will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Whitianga district marine work programmes.  The successful applicant will also work with a number of stakeholders throughout the area to achieve our work goals.


Key requirements

  • Skipper Restricted Limits (SRL) license or A ‘ring-fenced' Commercial Launchmaster (CLM) or Local Launchmaster (LLO) or other equivalent license
  • A marine background (Marine Science / Marine Mammal tertiary or equivalent qualifications)
  • A genuine interest in the Departments management of our natural heritage and an enthusiasm for engaging others in conservation
  • A full driver licence



  • Threatened species experience
  • Island operations experience
  • Marine Compliance
