  • Build on your existing expertise in island biosecurity
  • Play a crucial role in the protection of New Zealand's vulnerable pest-free islands
  • Opportunity to live/work in the subtropical Whangarei and Bay of Islands and its peerless offshore islands!

Today there are more pest-free islands than ever before. New Zealand's offshore islands are threatened by invasive pests of all kinds. These islands function as biodiversity banks for New Zealand's vanishing natural heritage. To protect these sanctuaries from harmful pests, DOC is ramping up its island biosecurity programme.  That's where you come in.

The Role

As our next Senior Ranger, Island Biosecurity you will be responsible for improving island biosecurity at both the regional (~80%) and national (~20%) scales. You will be joining a collaborative team composed of three other Senior Rangers, Island Biosecurity and DOC's specialist Technical Advisors. Based in a negotiated location within the northern north island the successful applicant will also be working with the operations teams of the Bay of Islands and Kaitaia offices covering a diverse set of island environments. You will enable excellence in island biosecurity through auditing, training and coaching. This is a chance to make a real difference to protecting our islands through creating strong connections with external associates and brokering improvements to our biosecurity work.

About You

This appointment requires a strong communicator with the ability to build effective relationships with our stakeholders in island management.  We are looking for excellent planning skills and previous experience in island biosecurity practice. Previous experience with internal auditing principles and practices is desirable.
