We have a vacancy for an experienced team member in our Recreation and Historic Ranger team in the Bay of Islands Office, based in Kerikeri. As a Ranger, Recreation and Historic you will be focused on carrying out priority conservation work programmes involving:

  • construction, maintenance and improvement of visitor sites, facilities and information
  • managing visitor hazards and risk
  • monitoring and reporting on contracts
  • investigating detail of work orders on line through an asset management database and recording/signing off work via mobile device
  • assisting with biodiversity and community conservation work programmes as required


Your day to day work will take you across the district, carrying out recreation and historic based work programmes scheduled in the office operational plan.


Your skills and experience in field work and asset management will be of great help to others as your role includes supporting other Rangers, community groups and volunteers doing conservation work in the field.


The successful applicant will have

  • sound knowledge and 3-4 years' experience in relevant field work programmes and facility management including carpentry, use of chainsaws, scrub bars and other motorised plant/equipment
  • driver's license and a current First Aid Certificate
  • computer literate and experience using GPS and mobile devices
  • a high level of physical fitness
  • boatmaster and boating experience is desirable
